A key learning from buying secondhand clothes ✌🏼

In January of this year I made the decision to not buy any new clothes, bags or shoes for the remainder of 2021.

I gave myself some guidelines being that I could buy secondhand and I could buy one pair of jeans and one pair of winter boots new and I did.

So what have I learnt from only thrift shopping for almost a year? LOTS and I'm going to share my learnings in a YouTube video soon!

Today I did want to share one of the biggest ah-ha's and that is sizing, because when you shop only for secondhand you are of course limited with sizing. And this can be a deal breaker for many women.

Firstly, if you are shopping on any of the online platforms for a specific item in specific size you have to be patient. You have to be patient enough to search, scroll, sort and enquire repeatedly in the hope that you locate what you after. It is an exhilarating feeling when all the effort pays off and you track down the item you are longing for! (If you would like a copy of my favourite re-seller platforms get it here.)

Secondly, if you are shopping in thrift stores or op shops you don't have the luxury of having a size range to choose from, and that is when you need to let go of the number on the tag. If you like an item, you try it on, and if it fits or you can make it work - you buy it! No judgement of what size the item has on the tag.

My favourite thrifted leopard shirt is a Size 18 and I'm a standard 10 (not that there is any standards when it comes to women's sizing) and I could not care less. 

I know sizing is something many of the women I work with feel restrained by which in reality is crazy! I always share with them this;

When you go to purchase a pair of shoes, you buy the size that fits your foot! You don't squeeze into a size too small attached to the shoe size nor do you leave angry or disappointed at your feet for being that size - YOU JUST BUY THE DAMN SHOES! So why not start doing that with your clothes and your body.
