You're so LUCKY 🍀 .. but are you?
Nov 11, 2021Yesterday I wrote an Instagram post that would appear from the comments and the DMs that a lot of people resonated with it, so I wanted to share it here and expand on it a little more.
MY POST:
You’re so lucky
Lucky you
I wish I was that lucky
It’s an interesting concept being “lucky”. I’ve had multiple people recently say to me that we are lucky to have moved to Queensland.
My response is “it took way more than luck to get here”. Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely grateful to have followed through on a long time goal and to have MADE it happen during the current shitshow makes it extra special, but ‘lucky’ not so much.
I’m a big believer that you make your own ‘luck’. When you know what you want, show up as if you already have it and take action that is in alignment with your goals, you are rewarded!
To achieve any goal generally takes a shit tonne of hard work, long hours and sacrifices. The challenge is most people only see the ‘glory’ without knowing the ‘story’.
Since writing this post I have taken even more time to ponder the concept of being 'lucky' and two things became very apparent to me. One, it's an insult and two it's a lack of responsibility.
Firstly telling someone that they are lucky when they have made a change in their life or achieved any level of success is an insult to the growth, hard work, sacrifice and discomfort it took to get there.
Secondly, it deflects responsibility from one's own life by referring that it was luck that got that person to where they are and not their drive to make it happen. It's easier to say 'they're lucky and I'm not', then take full responsibility that you are where you are in life due to the choices you have or have not made and the action you have or have not taken.
So let's drop the 'you're so lucky' and start saying 'well done on all you have created'.
